It facilitates the selection of specialists for people that don’t have a clear connection with the healthcare sector. It also eases access to top specialists for people living in rural areas where you don’t have top hospitals close by. Through the telemedicine platform, you can get access easily.”
Top Doctors has ensured the service is accessible to all, regardless of income.“Getting the appointment or being able to get all the information about the specialist is free.” However, the public health sector does not allow a patient to select their doctor. “The doctors listed on our platform operate in the private sector. Selecting the right doctor that is expert in your pathology improves the potential outcome of medical treatment. That is the basis of Top Doctors’ philosophy. That’s why we focus on the private sector where this choice is available as it is not generally possible in the public sector.”
Porciani admits to dining out on the story of where the idea for Top Doctors came from. “Lorena, my wife and co-founder of Top Doctors, is the daughter of a very important doctor in Barcelona. She’s always received a lot of calls from friends and family asking for the right doctors. So it was clear that selecting the right doctor was a clear need of society. Today, the platform has 250 million users per year in eight countries, confirming there was a clear need in the market.”
And he firmly believes that Top Doctors makes the world a better place for patients. “Generally speaking, a patient visits 2.7 different specialists before getting the right one and getting the right diagnosis. 87% of Top Doctors users said they selected the right specialist and they got the right diagnosis the first time. This greatly improves recovery outcomes.”
