Here with the answer is Celica Thellier, founder and chief researcher of of the workplace survey firm, ChooseMyCompany which is driving up standards in thousands of businesses.
“ChooseMyCompany is a mission-based company and our raison d’etre is to reinforce durable, strong and credible relationships between an organisation and its stakeholders. We have a big SaaS platform, and it collects reviews from salaried employees, interns, candidates, clients, and students who rate their institution of higher learning.”
The project started in 2012 when employees started expressing their opinions about their employers in places like Facebook. “We thought, how could we have more abundant, credible, balanced information available so that all the people involved could be involved in that dialogue?” says Thellier.
She believes there are five reasons why an organisation should take an interest in all its staff. “The first one is that listening is an act of inclusion, and it sends a huge message to your employees in terms of the fact that they count and that their voices count. The second reason is that your business performance is directly tied to the engagement of each and every person in your organisation. The third has to do with the importance of real time feedback, knowing what people are saying on a day-to-day basis in your organisation as well as what they’re saying on the outside. The fourth is that every employee in your organisation is a resource, they’re a talent to develop, and every one of them is an influencer in and of themselves. And the fifth reason is a very human reason, especially since 2020: to listen is to care. It is a managerial act.”
Thellier says ChooseMyCompany has seen impressive growth since its inception. “We do about 7.5 million euros in sales turnover, and we are a team of 75, distributed between Paris and Barcelona. We accompany about 1,500 organisations annually. Our surveys are available in 29 languages, and we’ve helped people in 73 countries around the world to have their say.”
And she says there is evidence that the company has improved the world of work. “It puts the most virtuous employers out there and shows how they make a difference. And this translates directly into the questionnaires that we create every year, so we then put the challenge to the entire market. And what we try to do is drive the debate and bring everyone up.”
