"We are the science behind all the products you see in stores,” explains Marie-Odile Hecht. “I don’t have a brand, but I work for brands. Because there are many that don’t have a laboratory and will go through structures like mine, which will create the products they will sell tomorrow. We’re talking about white label.”
Cosmoya will develop cosmetic products, care products, and spa treatments, always with a high level of naturalness, which is a bit of the laboratory's specialty, starting from a client's needs and project and then working from those requests.
“Twenty years ago, when I started formulating, let’s just say that the offer for natural ingredients wasn’t really there. We worked with petroleum jelly, parabens, and microplastics. We didn’t question it too much,” recalls Marie-Odile Hecht.
"What’s great is that now there is really this awareness. People are asking questions about what they put on their skin. From a regulatory standpoint, a lot of things have been banned, and that’s very good too.”
But how do we address environmental challenges in cosmetics today? It involves using the most natural materials possible, such as avoiding silicone. For sun care products, things need to be approached differently since they contain sun filters. So here, Marie-Odile and her team cannot compromise, but they can minimize their presence.
This commitment doesn’t stop at the laboratory doors. "At first, I didn’t see the impact clearly. I thought, 'I sell a recipe, and after that, people do what they want.' But actually, when a client was used to making silicone formulas, and we managed to convert them to natural formulas by showing them that sensorially, it’s super cool and that it won’t cost them four times more, and then they will produce 300,000, 500,000 units, we can imagine the impact that has on final pollution,” concludes Marie-Odile Hecht.
