Animou allows users to report a lost, found, or simply spotted animal. An algorithm then cross-references the announcements based on various criteria such as breed, color, or distinctive features. The app also relies on a proximity alert system to mobilize residents in the same neighborhood. "We wanted to work at the neighborhood level, to raise awareness and ask for help from people who are close to a loss," explains Aymeric Deloche.
The idea was born from a personal experience. The two founders had lost their cat Percy and eventually found him thanks to a neighbor. While searching for solutions, they realized that existing tools were sometimes outdated or paid. "We thought we could do better for free." Thus, Animou is completely free, for both individuals and professionals.
The issue is significant, as a cat goes missing every 8 minutes and a dog every 26 minutes in France. Animou currently has over 1,500 users and more than 400 announcements, celebrating over 100 reunions.
Beyond technology, the founders aim to create true local solidarity. "We are really a community, and it brings neighbors together around the lost animal," emphasizes Ambre Capon. This initiative now relies on 40 ambassadors across France and a community that the two founders hope will continue to grow.
