"We have developed an innovative process that allows us to refurbish old mattresses", explains Jérémie Adjedj.
Coming from a professional background related to bedding for several decades, the entrepreneur discovered the extent of waste in this sector. "We realized that there was a significant environmental waste, with thousands of mattresses being thrown away unnecessarily each year. We simply asked ourselves: can’t we reuse them?"
To create this new sector, the company had to tackle the challenge of convincing consumers that a refurbished mattress could be just as healthy and comfortable as a new product. "Hygiene was really the strategic point", he emphasizes.
After two years of research and development, Ecomatelas has developed a process that disinfects mattresses to over 99.9%, without using any chemical products.
Beyond the ecological impact, the company also advocates for a more accessible model. "Our mattresses are 30 to 50% cheaper compared to a new mattress", explains Jérémie Adjedj. This allows consumers to access hotel-quality bedding while minimizing their environmental impact. Each refurbished mattress saves about 170 kilos of CO₂ compared to a new mattress.
Today, Ecomatelas collects mattresses from hotels, French manufacturers, and the recycling sector, aiming to create a true virtuous cycle where mattresses can be reused rather than destroyed.
"We would like to become the Back Market of bedding", aspires Jérémie Adjedj. "Making refurbished products an obvious choice, just like new ones, and showing that a product can continue to hold value after its first life. The goal is indeed to break the codes", concludes Jérémie Adjedj.
