For the past six years, Able Human Motion has been trying to address the technological gap affecting the rehabilitation sector in clinics and hospitals. “I visited leading rehabilitation hospitals, and although everything had changed, the rehabilitation department had not; they were still working with mechanical devices, side bars… I was very surprised,” comments Carnicero.
This is how the idea of applying robotics to rehabilitation began, combined with conventional therapy, to offer maximum benefits to patients. What’s the problem? These devices are heavy, expensive, and difficult to use in 45 or 60-minute sessions due to the time it takes to adjust from one patient to another. Hence, the initial goal of Able Human Motion has been to democratize these exoskeletons.
“We have valued the patient and the therapist by simplifying the technology and making several innovations to reduce manufacturing costs and market them more economically without compromising their effectiveness,” says Carnicero. By facilitating the movement of patients who have lost the ability to walk, either totally or partially, these machines help restore self-confidence, but also combat other comorbidities resulting from lack of mobility. They are now working to make them available for personal use starting in 2026.
