The savings of the French people amount to 6 trillion euros, of which 2 trillion is in life insurance. This is a lever that is currently underutilized to finance the players in the ecological transition.
That’s why, to bring together savings and impact, Arthur Aubœuf and Joseph Choueifaty created a fund that combines both worlds, Team for the Planet – Goodvest Sustainable Bonds by Ecofi. It is a 90/10 fund, with 90% in sustainable bonds issued by large companies or states, to finance very concrete projects.
“What we have financed at Goodvest includes the bonds for the Grand Paris, new metro lines, and upcoming wind projects in Europe. This is the part of the fund that provides liquidity, keeping the money available, allowing a saver with a life insurance policy, if they have a project in 3 years, to recover their savings with limited risk, since these are rather mature loans with very few defaults,” specifies Joseph Choueifaty.
And alongside that, up to 10% will be invested in the shares of Team for the Planet.
For example, for Monomeris Chemicals, a plastic recycling solution. It involves an ionic bath system, combinations of molten salts up to 500 degrees, in which all types of plastics, even mixed, can be processed into gas, allowing the separation of different monomers and returning to hydrogen or ethylene. Thus, creating something other than plastic, such as medicines, fertilizers, and textiles.
Another example is Seaturns, which generates electricity from waves, that is, wave energy, which could produce 10% of the world's electricity, equivalent to nuclear energy today. And France, thanks to its extremely well-exposed coasts with perfect swells, has a card to play in wave energy.
"So typically, these are the types of solutions that can be financed with your savings through the fund,” explains Arthur Aubœuf.
“The innovations we support do not need 500 million euros to emerge. Our added value is precisely to intervene at a crucial moment, at the very beginning, when the capital requirements are not enormous. However, what really matters is the structure, the capital in the right place, and the right teams to unlock the barriers. If this movement does not happen, these companies will disappear, even though they can change everything,” concludes Arthur Aubœuf.
