In the French financial landscape, Hugues Le Bret emerges as a key figure in the banking revolution. Former CEO of ING Direct France, he co-founded Nickel in 2013, an innovative company that is redefining the concept of banking for everyone.
Nickel stands out for its simplicity and accessibility. Unlike traditional banks, it does not require income conditions or credit history. Its concept is based on a network of partner tobacconists where customers can open an account in just a few minutes for an annual fee of 25 euros.
In less than ten years, the company has attracted millions of customers, drawn by its transparency and lack of hidden fees, welcoming: “(...) young people but also retirees (...) because when you are in a small provincial village and there is no bank within 29 km but there is a tobacconist within 3 km of your home, Nickel becomes your account. And so, we become multi-target; audiences we hadn’t thought of”, explains its co-founder.
After successful launches in Spain and Portugal, the goal is to make Nickel a major player in global finance while remaining true to values of inclusion and simplicity. By offering transparency, accessibility, and technological innovation, this bank paves the way for fair and accessible financial management for all.
