ExtraJool has developed a technology that allows for the recovery of thermal waste from factories, farmers, anywhere there is heat exhaust, to generate clean electricity. Specifically, it involves installing a machine in front of a medium-temperature exhaust, based on the Ericsson cycle, to which two patents have been added. The air will circulate to a turbine, which will convert it into electricity that can either be consumed directly on-site or fed back into the grid.
The machine created by ExtraJool is optimal between 180 and 1,000 degrees, “noting that from 500 to 1,000 degrees, we will dilute the air to reach 500 degrees. It is at this temperature that we really reuse the energy,” specifies Euryale Chatelard.
These solutions create savings for industries. “Our modules range from 20 kW to 100 kW, and we intend to reach up to 500 kW. So they will be able to know how much they will save based on the kilowatts of electricity we will produce. For example, on a cogeneration engine, we can gain up to 10% more electricity,” explains Euryale Chatelard.
Sectors such as glassmaking, ceramics, metallurgy, chemistry, petrochemicals, and small incineration centers are concerned by this innovation, which allows for both economic and ecological gains.
“We save up to 94 tons of carbon per year with our smallest machine, the 20 kW. So, the day we install a 100 kW, we will need to multiply by 5 in tons of carbon saved per year. And our lifecycle is 20 years. So, similarly, we multiply by 20 the ecological gain in tons of carbon. It’s concrete, it’s really mathematical,” explains Euryale Chatelard.
An encouraging innovation at all levels. “Factory directors are very much aware and are ready to innovate, to invest in as many different technologies as possible that could help them decarbonize. Especially when the solution allows for cheaper electricity than what is available on the market.”
