« I have always been drawn to buildings. I have always wondered how we can design living spaces that can sustainably accommodate residents and allow everyone to coexist in good conditions », Fanny Fanou enthusiastically shares.
Throughout her experience as a surveyor and her work in engineering firms, she has observed that many homes are not prepared for the consequences of climate disruption. The implementation of new regulations, particularly regarding energy performance or geotechnical studies for new constructions, reinforces her belief that there is still a missing link in the chain of building adaptation.
« We have established measures to encourage energy renovation, but we do not talk enough about adapting homes to climate risks. Yet, over 80% of the existing housing stock was already in place before these new obligations », she emphasizes.
This observation led to the creation of Geominnov. The company's ambition is to go beyond simple risk diagnosis to provide concrete support to homeowners in securing and enhancing their property. To achieve this, the start-up has developed a digital solution that accurately identifies a home's vulnerabilities by cross-referencing the building's characteristics with the living habits of its occupants.
« A home is not just a structure. Behind every property, there is a family, a lifestyle, and a life project. Understanding how residents use their home allows us to propose truly tailored solutions », explains Fanny Fanou.
Once the risks are identified, Geominnov assists homeowners in implementing the recommended work through a platform that facilitates connections with relevant professionals. The start-up also leverages existing renovation financing mechanisms to minimize out-of-pocket costs for individuals.
Fanny Fanou views housing as a fundamental element of societal resilience in the face of climate upheavals. « When a family loses its home or lives in a compromised habitat, the consequences go far beyond the building itself. It impacts health, family stability, and people's ability to continue their lives under good conditions ».
