Disability, in any form, carries a burden of preconceived notions that are as heavy as they are unjust. However, for nearly two decades, Guy Tisserant has been fighting to normalize the inclusion of people with disabilities.
Being in a wheelchair himself, he knows what he’s talking about when discussing the obstacles related to his difference. Often, these apprehensions stem from fear—the fear of not knowing how to adapt to differences.
According to Guy Tisserant, to change the perspective of those hesitant to hire a disabled person, it would be enough to raise awareness.
In 2004, he founded, along with his wife, TH Conseil, a company that normalizes the recruitment of disabled individuals, who are often discriminated against during hiring. It allows them to integrate more freely, with the right tools, and most importantly, it offers employers the opportunity to rethink the topic of disability at work.
To this day, this 62-year-old retiree remains committed to the inclusion of people with disabilities, particularly through sports.
Having been a high-level athlete in table tennis, he chose to become the deputy treasurer of the French Handisport Federation.
Guy Tisserant asserts that the more we normalize differences, the more they become ordinary. Disability should not be seen as a hindrance; on the contrary, once accepted and recognized, it allows for super performance.
The only barriers that exist are preconceived notions. Therefore, highlighting the benefits of unique hiring is a decisive first step towards a world with impact.
