After several years of studying medicine, active research, and working in a hospital, Dr. Sophie Chung founded the health tech company Qunomedical. Her experiences, which are similar to many of her colleagues, highlight how fragmented the German healthcare system is.
The different systems are closed, and medical staff rarely communicate across practice or hospital boundaries. In other words, there is no central storage of data. Additionally, the processes in practices and hospitals are often far removed from the patients. And as Dr. Chung knows, the time spent with the sick person is essential.
Studies show that it can take up to six years to diagnose rare diseases. This costs time and money. Both the healthcare system suffers from this, but there is also an economic loss due to a lack of workforce, as Dr. Sophie Chung points out.
With her company Qunomedical, this is exactly what she aims to change. The digital platform for the patient journey, according to Dr. Chung, supports the person from start to finish. "Happy patients, happy doctors," adds Dr. Chung. Because doctors also benefit when patient journeys are shortened and the right diagnosis and treatment can be found more quickly.
The founder wants to further improve the existing functionalities. Although it is still a drop in the ocean, interest in the platform is high. What is still needed, according to Dr. Sophie Chung, is growth and proof that Qunomedical can be an important player in the healthcare system.
