Diversity in the workplace is crucial for a company's health as it brings numerous benefits.
Leïla Grison has been the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Publicis France for two years. Drawing on her experience, she explains in this interview what diversity brings to a company and why it is a daily struggle.
First of all, it fosters innovation. When a team is composed of individuals with varied backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, a greater plurality of ideas and creative solutions naturally emerges.
In a constantly evolving world, companies must be able to adapt quickly. Thus, diverse teams are better equipped to tackle challenges and adjust to market changes by bringing different viewpoints. Homogeneous groups, on the other hand, tend to have similar biases, leading to unilateral decisions.
“Like in nature, an environment or ecosystem that is completely homogeneous and not diverse is one that is destined to become extinct.” Leïla explains.
Moreover, it enhances reputation. Companies that value and reflect the diversity of their clientele are viewed more favorably by the public and attract a broader customer base.
And most importantly, employees are more likely to stay in a company where they feel valued and included, regardless of their background, gender, sexual orientation, etc.
Ultimately, by providing equal opportunities to all, regardless of their background, a company contributes to creating a more equitable society.
