Habitat & Humanisme has been working for nearly four decades to assist the most vulnerable. The association's mission is to provide access to decent housing for people in difficulty and to promote their social integration. According to Farid Ghedab, and specifically in the Lyon area, the association supports 12,000 people in very different ways: “We have emergency collective accommodation or supported housing” “We are here to fight against homelessness, against squatters, and to address the issue of slums. Therefore, orientation actions can be carried out by the social life center”.
Habitat & Humanisme also strives to provide those in difficulty with the necessary support for successful reintegration. “We welcome people in extreme poverty who are left to fend for themselves. So there is a whole diagnostic work carried out by multidisciplinary teams, social mission officers, and professional integration officers”, specifies Farid Ghedab.
This assistance is not only valuable but vital for people for whom housing has never been a reality: “We have populations coming from abroad for whom wandering and living on the streets is not new. It’s deeply rooted.”
The majority of Habitat & Humanisme's actions are funded by the State, while the rest of the resources come from the metropolitan area.
