Created ten years ago by a young volunteer firefighter faced with the lack of accessible information for the general public, the Feux de forêt platform addresses an increasingly urgent need. "Wildfires, at that time, were mostly located around the Mediterranean arc, but today they affect a majority of French departments,” explains Anthony Montardy.
The platform relies on citizen participation. After calling for help, anyone can report a fire, share photos or videos. The information is cross-verified using a reliability score powered by artificial intelligence, before being moderated by a team of volunteers. "We do not replace firefighters or prefectures. We gather in one place information that is currently scattered across multiple sources,” he clarifies.
The application primarily focuses on prevention. It allows users to check if a land is subject to the legal obligation of clearing and to visualize its perimeter. "Feux de forêt contributes to raising awareness among the population that this risk exists, that it is important to stay informed, and that preparation is necessary,” concludes Anthony Montardy.
Feux de forêt currently has nearly 800,000 users.
