The association Impala Avenir Développement has three main projects.
The first one: The Digital Plumbers. The idea is to connect unemployed, untrained young people with companies in the fiber optics market. A training module is offered to help them learn fiber installation techniques. Then, companies that might hire them (initially as interns, later as permanent or temporary employees) are contacted.
The same principle applies to The Building Geeks. "We take a profession in demand where there is a significant need for labor. We target young people and older individuals who are beneficiaries of RSA," explains Crama Trouillot du Boÿs. "The presence of this generational mix allows for the formation of collectives that can support each other in different ways." The goal is always to provide a boost to help them enter a company.
The third initiative: The House of Godmothers. The observation is as follows: young people who exit child welfare find themselves without any assistance once they reach adulthood. "Overnight, they have to earn a living, get a salary, and become independent. Women are the most vulnerable in these situations. When there is no more housing, no more support, they end up on the streets, victims of violence and prostitution," recounts the co-founder of Impala Avenir. "We offer them transitional housing for a duration of 7 to 8 months to help them move towards autonomy."
"It’s somewhat unnatural to imagine that young people at the beginning of their lives end up on the streets in complicated situations, so if we can prevent that from the start, it gives them better chances for the future," insists Crama Trouillot du Boÿs. "It’s like the hummingbird; these are small boosts we can provide with our limited means. It’s natural to help others; fraternity should inhabit us all, not ignoring the person we pass on the street, and when we can do a little more, we can create the House of Godmothers or Impala Avenir."
