If you can't make it to a museum, know that the museum can come directly to you! This is the innovative concept of MUMO, a mobile museum created by Ingrid Brochard in 2011, aimed at making modern and contemporary art accessible to those who are distanced from it.
Initially intended for “audiences from rural areas or priority neighborhoods in cities”, explains Clémence Renaud, this gallery truck has already traveled through several countries in Europe and Africa. In 2017, a second traveling museum was born, showcasing works from the Regional Funds for Contemporary Art (Les Fracs).
Laure Forlay is the head of public services at Frac Auvergne, a partner of MUMO for several years: “I draw from our collection of nearly 1000 works, with a theme that I imagine. Last year, for example, I wanted to explore the question of light.” The artists exhibited can be well-known to the general public or emerging, both national and international.
The MUMO regularly engages with children for whom art is not a given. The exhibitions are immersive and playful: “Having access to art opens up new possibilities” asserts Clémence. “Opening all possibilities for children” can lead, in her view, to “a form of openness” and even “a future career.”
