Socio-aesthetics is about enabling isolated individuals, those experiencing social disconnection, to relearn how to take care of themselves. It can start with something as simple as holding hands, looking in a mirror, which can already be a huge step, and gradually learning to continue to love oneself. “It’s about reaching out to those who wouldn’t go on their own,” explains Hafida el Mokhtari.
It was after conducting beauty workshops for young women that she supports as a community educator that Hafida discovered socio-aesthetics. It was a revelation for her, this humanitarian and social approach to aesthetics.
She founded the Tente Beauté Mobile association focusing on three areas: a solidarity hygiene shop, a fixed location, and a mobile hygiene shop that reaches out to homeless individuals, as well as a tent that moves to structures that host people in emergency accommodation.
“It’s the last thing we think about when we are in a precarious situation because it seems superficial and unnecessary, but on the contrary, it’s fundamental because when we feel better, it helps us to get out of it better,” insists the founder of Tente Beauté Mobile. “The benefits are immediate; people feel a well-being that is visible right away, with of course long-term effects. People thus regain the desire to take care of themselves.”
