“At the beginning, we wanted to tackle the issue of overconsumption of home appliances,” explains Guy Pezaku. “So, my four co-founders and I came together to build an efficient repair service across France with salaried technicians.”
Indeed, this sector is facing a labor shortage, which the co-founders addressed by creating a training organization that now enables nearly 60% of French people to find a technician who can come within 24 hours to repair their appliances, making them the leader in out-of-warranty appliance repair in France. Appliances are repaired by Murfy in over 83% of cases, and in one out of two cases, without changing any parts. “Because the best fridge is the one in our kitchen,” summarizes Guy Pezaku.
“We then asked ourselves how we could further our social and environmental mission,” recounts Guy Pezaku. “So we launched activities around home energy, the installation and maintenance of photovoltaic panels, as well as heating systems like heat pumps.”
The production of a washing machine generates about 300 kg of CO2, which includes material extraction, transformation, assembly, and distribution. When we repair, we reduce the footprint to 12 kg of CO2 emitted. “So it's both a question of French sovereignty, household autonomy, and it helps reduce our environmental footprint by limiting our CO2 emissions,” specifies Guy Pezaku.
“We are part of a whole movement of companies trying to make a difference, and it's the sum of all collective efforts that creates change,” enthuses Guy Pezaku. “We are proud of what we do, and that motivates our teams day after day. For the past 30 years, we have been telling our youth that progress means buying cheap products made on the other side of the world, so we have stopped training in technical professions. Developing these kinds of skills in local areas is a strategic challenge for France.”
