First, Le Bol is a blog where you can find articles written by various ceramicists. Next, it offers online and in-person training, professional courses, and even equipment rental.
Sarah Cambot herself transitioned into ceramics 10 years ago after a first career as a hearing aid specialist. At that time, information was scarce online, so she wanted to create what she wished she could find. Le Bol was built around this journey of career change.
First, it’s important to know what we’re talking about when we mention ceramics. And it’s quite broad. Ceramicists can be called potters, ceramists, sculptors, or artists. Ceramics can be practiced in many different ways. You can create sculptures, functional items like tableware, or even embark on projects such as industrial research.
“In this journey, being supported is very important, and it’s true that often, ceramicists live in rural areas, far from each other. In big cities, it’s easier because there are gathering places. But we bring together the most isolated and distant individuals through this community.” Members meet once a week for masterclasses to discuss the challenges they face or the questions they have.
A career change, a drive motivated by the search for meaning. “We have many jobs that are dematerialized today. So, we lose the practical sense. And that’s what people come looking for in ceramics. Also, there’s a different relationship with time, which is much longer, connected to the earth, to firing, to fire. So, it allows for a different approach to life,” concludes Sarah Cambot.
