Hectarea gives individuals the opportunity to invest from €500 in agricultural land, enabling farmers to find financing solutions to assist them in their establishment or the development of their farms.
“The goal is really to reconnect with the agricultural world, with the land that feeds us,” explains Paul Rodrigues. “And what's nice about the financial aspect of investing in land is that you have, of course, the return and thus the rent paid to you every month on the platform. But you also have access to preferential rates for acquiring products that come from the land in which you have invested. We try to go as far as possible, beyond pure investment.”
A financing system that addresses a real issue. Indeed, 50% of farmers will retire in the next 10 years. That’s over 200,000 farms to take over. Financing farmers allows them to secure the future of these structures and also supports them in engaging in ecological transition.
For individuals, it allows participation in impactful projects, with a tangible representation of their investment. To better illustrate this concrete assistance, Hectarea visits farms and conducts a typical day with the farmer so that investors can truly envision the meaning and outcome of their savings.
"I see that a gap has unfortunately widened between food production, agriculture, and consumption patterns. So what we are doing is reconnecting the dots,” explains Paul Rodrigues. “There are two main levers for this, which are consumption and investment. We focus on the investment side because that’s where we have expertise. However, I believe in a systemic response in the sector, with a significant role to play in changing consumption patterns.”
