Based on the principle that "education heals," this NGO founded in Barcelona over 30 years ago operates in 18 countries, supporting nearly a million children. In recent years, they have observed that the impact of poverty on education has accelerated in wealthy countries like Spain, making education no longer a tool for social mobility for many children, as it was once considered.
“Education has ceased to be that guarantee that if you are educated, you will have a better life. And that is basically due to the impact of poverty,” explains Guiomar Todó, noting that currently in Spain, one in three children live in poverty and vulnerability.
Todó recalls that the school meal program, leisure time, access to education for children aged 0 to 3, and education for citizenship, among other factors, contribute to education having a transformative power.
