Born in the Syrian desert, he describes himself as a “product of a rape.” He will never know his date of birth as he was abandoned by his father: “He didn’t want me, and maybe that was my chance,” he explains.
Mohed Altrad arrived in France at - around - 17 years old and, despite the language barrier, obtained a PhD in computer science from the University of Montpellier.
Through various experiences, including a stint at the national oil company of Abu Dhabi, he acquired a bankrupt scaffolding company in 1985 with Richard Alcock.
Today, Altrad boasts over 5 billion euros in revenue, with a presence on five continents and in 52 countries. It is the world leader in providing services to the industry, particularly in the oil and gas sectors, and in manufacturing equipment dedicated to the construction market.
This multinational stands out from others due to its management style: “We opted for a matrix organization (...) which means, among other things, that there is no boss,” recounts Mohed, who has also written several books on the subject.
He is not afraid to openly discuss his differences.
